Arewa’s commendable stand on Jonathan, Jos riots
Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the prominent socio-cultural association of the people’s of Northern Nigeria spoke forthrightly on two burning national issues. It spoke on the constitutional imperative of allowing Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to take over President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua’s position in acting capacity, pending the latter’s return from Saudi Arabia where he has gone to attend to his health. The forum also commented on the Jos crisis. Arewa should be commended for its position on both issues.
On President Yar’ Adua’s prolonged absence from office, its chairman, board of trustees, General Jeremiah Useni(rtd) asked for full disclosure on the state of health of the President. He argued that the right to do was to follow the constitution in the present situation and transfer presidential power to Dr Jonathan in acting capacity.
