I wish to sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of your swearing- in as councilors of Onigbongbo L.C.D.A.
AS you are sworn- in, I urge you to cast your mind back to the period of your campaign. Recall the stress you experienced: recall the promises you made to yourself; recall the pledge you made to people.
Different emotions will course through your mind, some complimentary, others conflicting.
However, if you listened to the speech of HE Babatunde Raji Fashola has a number of implications as follows;
_You have to be focused knowing precisely why you are in office.
_You have to be serious –minded and hardworking.
_You must respect the rule of law and the constitution.
_You must have a sense of history, remembering that prosperity wants to judge you.
These are the very things Fashola stands for and these are the things you have to stand for.
Every councilor must ask himself how do l deliver best service to the people?
_how do l make laws that will move my community forward?
_How do I assist the executive in the discharge of its function?
_How do l strike the appropriate balance between politics and governance?
At this point, l must advise you to always bear in mind the distinction between politics and governance.
If Fasola is being hailed today, it is because he emphasized governance over politics. it is good governance that earns accolades from the people.
An over-emphasis on politics to the detriment of governance may be injurious.
Yet you cannot ignore politics. it is important to balance both correctly.
Today, you have been molded and produced by politics. Now to advance the interests of the political party that produced you,it is delivery of quality service next
Then your relationship with the executive has to be cordial,supportive and positively critical.

The Legislative has an oversight responsibility over the executive. The executive. the executive presents its budget (plain) to you for approval. First you have to ensure that the plans of the executive are in executive are in tandem with the expectations of the people you represent. it is only then that you approve the budget.
The you have to monitor faithful implement of those plans if the executives not is not faithful to their approved plans, you call them to order. implementation is strictly an executive function. Monitoring and oversight are the job of legislative in addition to law making.
Finally, as young people who have a brighter-rewarding –future ahead of them, you have a unique opportunity to write your names in gold.
